About Us

The Protein Society (TPS) is a not-for-profit scholarly society that has served as the intellectual home of investigators across all disciplines - and from around the world. Since 1985, we have been involved in the study of protein structure, function, and design. TPS provides forums for scientific collaboration and communication and supports professional growth of young investigators through workshops, networking opportunities, and by encouraging junior researchers to participate fully in the Annual Symposium. The Society’s journal Protein Science, edited by John Kuriyan, serves as an ideal platform for furthering the science of proteins in the broadest possible sense.

Protein Society Members

Our members include chemists, biologists, physicists, mathematicians, students and educators alike who share a unifying interest in understanding the nature of proteins. Working at universities, foundations, institutes and corporations in more than 50 countries, they also support TPS's commitment to foster development of the next generation of protein scientists, provide resources for educators and students, and create productive international forums for protein science that incorporates diverse research interests and experimental approaches.

Protein Science

Our prestigious journal, Protein Science serves as an international forum for publishing original reports on all scientific aspects of proteins. The Journal publishes papers by leading scientists from all over the world that report on advances in the understanding of proteins in the broadest sense. Learn more about the Journal here.

Annual Symposium

Our Annual Symposium strives to gather leaders of the international protein science community. Structured with two concurrent sessions and spanning 3.5 days, the Annual Symposium features a multitude of opportunities for networking, plentiful speaking slots for selected early-career scientists, and unique workshops for students and educators alike. The 2023 Symposium will take place July 13 - 16 in Boston, Massachusetts

The Awards

The Protein Society Awards recognize excellence and leadership in furthering our understanding of protein molecules  and are presented each year at the Annual Symposium to honor those with distinguished accomplishments in protein research, or those who have made outstanding contributions in leadership, teaching and service.
